Why Your Restaurant Is Not Showing on Google Maps
Short answer
A restaurant usually fails to appear in Maps for one of six reasons: the Google Business Profile is unclaimed or unverified, the primary category is wrong, the address or hours are inconsistent with the website, the profile is too incomplete to rank, there are too few recent reviews, or the searcher is simply outside the radius Google is willing to show you in.
Check these six things, in this order
Start with verification, because nothing else matters until it is done: an unverified profile can exist and still never rank. Then the primary category, which is the single strongest relevance signal you control — "Restaurant" is worse than "Biryani restaurant" if biryani is what you sell, because the specific category wins the specific search. Then consistency: if your address or opening hours differ between Google, your website and your Instagram, Google trusts none of them.
Completeness is not cosmetic
A profile with hours, menu, attributes, service options, photos and posts outranks an identical restaurant with a name and a phone number. It is free, it takes an afternoon, and almost nobody finishes it. We have never audited a restaurant profile that was more than about 60 percent complete.
Reviews, and the part people get wrong
Recency counts more than total. Forty reviews from last year lose to twelve from last month. Ask at the moment the meal ends and the answer is yes; ask by SMS three days later and it is no. Do not buy reviews: they get detected, removed, and can cost you the listing entirely.
The one you cannot fix
Proximity. Google will not show a restaurant in Bandra to someone searching in Andheri, whatever you do to the profile, because the search means "near me" and you are not. This is why a restaurant with one location cannot rank city-wide, and why anyone promising that is describing an advertisement.

Straight answers
How long does it take for a restaurant to appear on Google Maps?
Verification takes a few days to two weeks depending on the method. Once verified the listing appears immediately, but ranking well against nearby competitors usually takes four to eight weeks of a complete profile and steady reviews.
Why does a competitor rank above me when I have better food?
Google cannot taste. It weighs proximity to the searcher, relevance of your categories and content to the query, and prominence — how complete your profile is and how many recent genuine reviews you have. Food quality reaches it only through reviews.
Does a website help my restaurant rank on Maps?
Yes, indirectly. Google cross-checks the name, address and hours on your website against your profile, and inconsistency between them reduces trust in both. A fast site with your menu marked up in structured data reinforces the profile rather than competing with it.
